There’s a lot to be thankful for this year. We have a new owner. We’ve experienced 200 percent growth in office dog attendance. And every time we step out the front door or take a walk around town, we see how Detroit has gotten a tiny bit more vibrant.
One of the best things about being part of this city is the steadfast community determined to make it a better place. It’s so easy to find and support good people trying to do good. Over the course of 2018, we were lucky enough to lend a hand to a few of these critical nonprofits and community organizations. We focused on ones that shared our passion for food and used our strategy and design skills to help these groups better communicate with their target audiences.
With Thanksgiving approaching, we want to boost the voice of three clients who are doing amazing work in our city, from the large-scale redistribution of food to improving fresh food access to teaching individuals how to cut down on food waste.
The good folks at Forgotten Harvest work year-round to deliver excess fresh food to people in need, reducing food insecurity and food waste in the Detroit area. Their website was a high-traffic area for people looking to help or partner with Forgotten Harvest.
We built a fresh digital presence that made it easy for people to donate, volunteer, or become part of their network using a simplified navigation and big call to action areas. A lighter, brighter color scheme better reflected the upbeat personality of the people who work behind the website.
Their new mobile-friendly site makes it easy for first-time visitors and long-time sponsors to take action in the fight against food insecurity with just a few simple clicks. You can check out the many ways to give on Forgotten Harvest’s new website.
Nourish at Eastern Market
Nourish was conceived to grow support for Eastern Market Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, among young professionals in the Greater Detroit region. Eastern Market Corporation is responsible for all the overhead costs—grounds maintenance, marketing, programming—associated with keeping Eastern Market up and running as well as vibrant, sustainable, and community-focused.
Because Eastern Market describes the district as well as its active market, citizen understanding of Eastern Market Corporation is low. Nourish is a series of pop-up dinners and events with a more intimate setting, allowing for in-depth conversations and connection around the vital role of the organization in keeping one of our city’s gems intact and thriving.

Make Food Not Waste
Make Food Not Waste (MFNW) shares tips, tricks, and habits to reduce individual food waste, helping people save money and reducing the amount of greenhouse gases created by excess food that ends up at the dump.
In addition to helping them land on a name, we gave the fledging organization beautifully designed materials for their first major event. We even broke out the big, bubbly fonts and a colorful palette to set the mood. At the event, folks got to eat wonderful recipes prepared by Detroit’s most popular chefs, made from food that would otherwise go to waste, and learned how to reduce their environmental footprint.
