Open Letter to the Arts Community in Metro Detroit:
Whether you know it or not, I’m speaking to you. Even if you don’t call yourself an artist, you either were at some time or have memories of being personally affected by art.
The arts community is big. And it’s as diverse as they come. Professionals, amateurs, children. Art really is for everyone.
It plays an enormous role in all of our lives. And today, the call to protect the future of the arts has grown increasingly important as the August 7th vote to support the Detroit Institute of Arts draws near. That’s why we are reaching out to our creative network to join us in supporting the DIA.
It is an inspiring institution that has given us so much. As Detroiters, as designers, as enthusiasts and as parents.
We support the arts because we recognize the impact it has on our lives. From the days when we were gluing noodles to construction paper, art had its hold on us. If you’re a parent, you need only look at the ceramic glob on your desk to know it still does.
Think about that little kid with sticky fingers next Tuesday when you head to the polls. Make both of your voices heard as members of the arts community. Vote YES to support the DIA.
If you’re interested in getting your hands sticky again, we invite you to use your talents to help spread the word:
- Show your support for the DIA by contributing a piece of art for Free Art Friday Detroit, a Free Art Scavenger Hunt in the City of Detroit on Friday, August 3.
- Join us in front of the DIA on Friday, August 3rd at 10 a.m. for an Artists Rally.
- Share this message with your friends!
